Larian Studios is an independent Belgian developer and publisher of role-playing games, founded in 1996 by Swen Vincke and headquartered in Ghent. The studio's work centres on narrative design and player-driven experiences, in which meaningful choices shape the story. Its remit spans game development, RPG design, narrative design and publishing, alongside work with emerging technologies alongside traditional development methods.
Its catalogue includes the Divinity series - among them Divine Divinity, Divinity II: Developer's Cut and Beyond Divinity - and the Divinity: Original Sin series, entries noted for their emphasis on player agency and narrative consequence. Baldur's Gate 3, an adaptation of the Dungeons & Baldur's Gate franchise built on Dungeons & Dragons, followed the success of the Divinity titles and won multiple Game of the Year awards.
The company employs more than 500 people across seven studios: Ghent (headquarters), Barcelona, Dublin, Guildford, Kuala Lumpur, Quebec and Warsaw. Despite that scale, it describes itself as independent and states a human-centric approach to game creation, maintaining the collaborative feel of a small studio.
